Measuring Tips

Use a steel measuring tape and measure to the nearest 1/8" of an inch, if the size is on a 1/16" mark, then round down to the next 1/8".

Window Frame Measurements

Inside Mount

Inside mount window treatments are installed inside the window frame or casing - they provide a sleek, clean look which can showcase your window size and moldings. If you’re interested in measuring for inside mount blinds, follow these steps:

Width: Start your measurements at the depth where your brackets will be installed and measure your window’s width at the top, middle, and bottom of opening edge to edge. Record the narrowest of the 3 width measurements to the nearest 1/8".

Height: Measure your inside mount window height edge to edge in 3 places: left, middle and right. Record the tallest of the 3 height measurements to the nearest 1/8".

Outside Mount

An outside mount can be adjusted for irregular sizes and is a good choice if your window opening has no recess or if the window is out of square.

Width: Measure above the window first to make sure you have at least 2" of flat space on the molding or wall.
Next, measure the width you
want covered. We recommend at least 1.5" of overlap on each side of the window The extra width provides more privacy. Record your measurements down to the nearest 1/8 inch.

Height: Determine the location of the headrail or top of the window treatment and be sure to mark the location This could be installed on the window molding if there is enough flat surface or wall. Measure the height of each window from the mark you made to where you want the bottom of your window treatment to rest. Consider if you want your window treatment to extend to the sill or lower. If you have a protruding window sill. Be aware of obstructions such as doorknobs or molding. If you have obstructions, spacer blocks or extension brackets are available to help your blind or shade extend far enough to avoid protrusions.

Measuring for Panoramic View

If you are measuring for more than one window, please record your measurements beginning with the furthest left window facing your windows. Please double-check your measurements before submitting and be sure not to transpose your width/height specifications.

When measuring for a panoramic selection spanning more than one window, please remember to measure the space between your windows, prior to filling-out the order form. This will ensure your panoramic view appears continuous from window to window. If you need assistance, please call 509.270.9282 (8am to 6pm, Monday thru Friday, PST).
